THE CORNER GALLERY

Hendrika Stephens set up The Corner Gallery in 2011, and moved it to Heeley Bank in May 2012 shortly after the centre opened. As its success grew and grew it became ever more challenging to run singlehandedly. Sam Parr, one of the artists who joined in August 2012 now helps to manage it alongside Hendrika. It operates as a collective non profit enterprise with all the artists invited to contribute and work together. The Gallery aims to provide artists and artisans with the space to showcase their work, acting as a point of sale. The Gallery contains ceramics, sculpture, glass and wood-turned work, paintings, print-work, fabric-based items and unusual jewellery, cards, prints, bespoke decorative furniture items and metalwork.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
We seek to support artists in the sale of their pieces. Most galleries expect a 50% commission on work sold, whereas The Corner Gallery is non profit making and takes no commission, instead artists pay a small sub towards the rent for the gallery space and keep 100% of the proceeds from their sales.  This ensures that the space remains viable yet self-sufficient, and prices are highly competitive, making art accessible both for artists to show their work and for buyers.

We chose Heeley Bank Antiques Centre in order to display locally-made artwork within an unconventional setting. Visitors are often surprised and delighted to find original artworks in such a setting.
